There’s No Offseason Hibernation for this Bear
Bear McWhorter | Georgia 2026 OL
Bear McWhorter is a 6’4” 285lb known commodity in the football world, coming from Cass High School (GA) by way of Kingston in the Cartersville area – home to greats like Trevor Lawrence and Ronnie Brown. McWhorter started 12 of 12 games at LT, helping the upstart Colonels to a massive upset of the Jefferson Dragons led by all-world RB/LB Sammy Brown. His recruitment really seemed to begin upon the release of his first Varsity clips. Within two days he had offers from Penn State and Louisville…it just picked up steam from there. He said, “It was crazy. I was speechless.” We spoke with McWhorter about him, his life and his recruitment.
We asked him to tell us something about himself, it was all about others. “The biggest thing people don’t know about me is my favorite thing outside of football is being a big brother to my baby sister. I love my family, volunteering at church serving children with disabilities and being on leadership groups from school.”
On discussing differences of his game versus other ’26 OL, he was quick to point out there was a lot of talent in this class across every position all over the country. He added, “the thing I focus on is my work ethic. I don’t want to lose because someone outworked me.”
Talking about recruiting, we asked of his offers were there any that standout? McWhorter explained, “As of now, no favorite has arose, but there’s something special about every school that’s offered.” When asked about his dream school, Bear responded with, “There’s no dream school for me anymore, just a dream to play college football.”
Outside of the football life, He draws his biggest inspiration from his “Pops.” He explained, “Pops taught me everything I know and always pushes me to be the best I can be.” He draws playing inspiration from Bradley Bozeman, of the Carolina Panthers. “To do the things he does on the field and being such a great guy off the field, it’s awesome.”
Last but not least, he wants people to know his Colonels have some upside heading into the 2023 season as they started more freshman on offense than seniors this past season. He credits all coaches and players with their emerging success but one coach really stands out for McWhorter, “Coach Hughes, strength and conditioning. It’s awesome having someone like him that will not only bring my bench max up 15lbs in 3 weeks but also will talk to me about anything. Him and Mrs. Hughes are sort of like non-relative grandparents to me.”
